Aon Somrutai’s Guide To Getting Dressed Up In Singapore

Among the many “#RichTok” videos circulating online, Aon Somrutai is still a hard personality to miss. Usually, she’s seen walking into a luxury boutique in an elaborate couture ensemble, pushing the pram of her daughter, Freyana, and flanked by her notorious bodyguard, Kateyki. This unlikely combination of family life, luxury, and theatricality has turned the Thai socialite into a social media darling. Her videos contain a personal look at her family life, a little humour courtesy of her bubbly personality, and of course, extravagant show of wealth that people can’t help but watch.

But for all the luxury on display, Aon herself comes across as remarkably earnest about the things she loves. There is the obvious appreciation for fashion and beautiful things, but there is also a genuine affection for her family and her husband, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr Nopparat Rattanawaraha. She speaks about these things with the same fondness as she does her love of fashion. And that’s probably because fashion is truly near and dear to her heart. While Aon parades around with her Birkins and celebrity friends like Lisa and BamBam, behind-the-scenes, she’s a successful self-made businesswoman, founder of luxury resale company Perrine Porter. So, when it comes to getting dressed, it’s not far-fetched to say that Aon knows exactly what she likes—which makes her an exceptionally fun person to ask for fashion advice.

The socialite stopped by Singapore this past July, reuniting with friend and fellow luxury-lover, Jamie Chua, to attend Walter Tan’s mixed-media exhibition, Dreamland: The Factory. GRAZIA Singapore managed to glean some tips from Aon about how she always manages to put together a great look for a day out. Ahead, the fashionista shares her rules for getting glammed up and dressing to the nines in Singapore.

GRAZIA Singapore (GS): What’s a Thai beauty secret that more people should know?

Aon Somrutai (AS): I think a Thai beauty secret is having a good facial structure. For me, I have a good nose structure from my husband. Thank you, doctor! If you come to Thailand, you can ask my doctor because I got this good, natural [nose] structure from him.

And of course, my current favourite thing is using a face mask like. Right now, my current favourite is the Fan Beauty Diary face mask from my favourite sister, Fan Bingbing. I use it every day, like her! So I think beauty comes from having good structure and good skin, you know?

GS: How do you stay stylish and comfortable in tropical weather?

AS: For me, I like dresses that give me plenty of room to breathe in and breathe out. I like anything that makes me feel comfortable. Beauty and good health and longevity—it’s all you need.

GS: What do you look for first when buying shoes: fashion or comfort?

AS: For shoes, I take both fashion and comfort into consideration. Sometimes the heel is high, but you have to make it comfortable. You can adjust yourself to the shoe—the shoe shouldn’t have to adjust to you! Beauty is pain, but we can adjust to the pain and make it comfortable. I love collecting shoes, so I have a lot of them. Today, I chose my wedding shoes for my like because they’re still my favourite, and I wear them all the time. For a more normal, daytime look, I might choose a simpler pair of heels.

GS: What’s your go-to bag that always pulls a look together?

AS: I’m a bag collector, so I think it can be anything that matches with my dress, or something that’s very easy to carry. I take all for the bags! Today, because I’m wearing a minidress, I chose the mini Kelly. Sometimes, though, I don’t hold the bag myself. I just ask my assistant to hold it for me. Thank you, assistant!

GS: What’s your most prized piece of jewellery in your collection?

AS: My most prized piece is my wedding ring from my husband. I always wear it because it carries good memory with me at every moment, wherever I go. I love this ring. But I want a new one, husband! Thank you!

For today’s look, because the dress is quite cute and in a light colour, I chose these Alhambra earrings, which are my favourite ones from Van Cleef & Arpels. I like to choose my jewellery depending on what I’m wearing, so if I wear big earrings like [the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra], I don’t wear a necklace because the earrings are already long. When I wear a necklace, it’s usually because I’m wearing smaller earrings. For bracelets, I like to wear two from Cartier—the Love Bracelet and the Juste un Clou—and stack them together.

For sunglasses, I’ll usually go with my favourite Chanel ones. They have a cute little bow and Chanel logo on the side of the frames. So, I almost take all accessories, but not all!
