Lisa Nandy, UK Government culture secretary, has announced the Turn It Up initiative that’s set to benefit UK music venues and events through “a range of new powers and investment.”

In what the Government says is a “long-term plan to back the [music industry] sector,” Turn It Up aims to help the music industry to “grow, innovate and succeed” through a Music Growth Package (MGP) now worth £45 million. This recent announcement includes a cash injection of £15m from Arts Council England toward the MGP fund, another £12.5m dedicated toward libraries to be diversified into music lending libraries and £10m for creative mentoring for care experienced young people.

The MGP says it will “fund over 2,000 projects over the next 3 years, supporting over 40,000 artists and professionals.”

Vision for Sustainable Events was cited in the original policy paper through its Show Must Go On report, which delivers a route map to halve live event emissions by 2030. Christopher Johnson, chair, said: “This has been a very positive and collaborative process with the DCMS/government – it’s profoundly helpful that climate leadership across the live outdoor sector has been recognised.

Efforts toward consistency and collaboration are being recognised with the endorsement of the Green Code of Practice, which will help momentum to achieve the aims in the Climate Transition Plan 2030.”
