One can lose oneself gazing at an Hermès carré—those silken squares that are less accessory than portal.
Since 1937, Hermès’s silk scarves have served as canvases for miniature epics, each hand- printed in Lyon with the same rigour an Old Master might reserve for frescoes. Layer by layer, colour by colour, artisans coax stories into silk: a cosmology of equestrian codes, witty characters, and secret in-jokes only the initiated spot.
Consider Pony Pit Stop. Ugo Bienvenu—better known for directing sci-fi animations—dreamed up a chrome horse having its hooves trimmed, a tongue-in-cheek collision of futurism and stable life. Carré Libre, by Baptiste Virot, feels like a Surrealist dinner party spilled onto silk: a surfer on a baguette, a horse leaning on a cane, a fish confronting a Birkin underwater. And in Bottes Story, Carine Brancowitz sends the cavalryman who greets shoppers at Madison Avenue off to the Wild West, his boots kicking up desert dust.

Such whimsy and gravitas are the twin poles of the Hermès carré—and precisely what The Silky Way, the maison’s upcoming event at Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, seeks to capture. More than an exhibition, it promises an immersive journey where scarves leap off the neck and into narrative. Expect colour, spectacle, and the sly wink Hermès has always worn beneath its saddle.
At The Silky Way, all you need to bring is your imagination. The scarves will do the rest.
