In what’s being marked as a first for large-scale outdoor events in the UK, Festival Republic are installing a purpose-built mains power supply in Finsbury Park, London.
The move, which Festival Republic describes as a “major advancement” in sustainable energy, is designed to reduce the use of on-site generators and help transition towards “an outdoor music sector run on renewable energy sources,” says Festival Republic.
The supply will power the stage and other key locations at Festival Republic events directly from the electrical grid. By connecting to the mains supply, this enables the use of a green energy tariff, meaning renewable electricity is sourced for events and increases the share of renewables in the grid.
The announcement was made at a ground-breaking event in Finsbury Park, and is part of Festival Republic’s contributions towards Live Nation’s Sustainability Charter.
Melvin Benn, Festival Republic’s Managing Director, said: “Installing a purpose-built mains power supply in Finsbury Park continues our long-term commitment to producing sustainable large-scale outdoor events and festivals, as well as lowering the impact of event operations in the park and to the local community. We’re proud to be spearheading the transition towards outdoor music spaces run entirely on renewable energy sources.”
